As a travel consultant, the number one question I hear from clients planning a Walt Disney World vacation is, “How can we make the most of our time in the parks?” With four theme parks, countless attractions, shows, dining experiences, and more, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of options. But don’t worry—with a solid plan and a few insider tips, you can make the most of your time and ensure an unforgettable Disney vacation. From avoiding long lines to mastering the Genie+ system, here’s everything you need to know. |
One of the biggest concerns for Disney guests is how to avoid long lines. My advice? Prioritize your must-do attractions and structure your park days around them. Arriving early for rope drop (when the parks officially open) is one of the best ways to hit popular rides with shorter wait times. Guests staying at Disney resorts also get the added benefit of extended morning hours, which is another great time to enjoy attractions when crowds have thinned out. Throughout the day, keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app for real-time wait times and try to enjoy less popular rides during peak afternoon hours.Another invaluable tool for Disney guests is Lightning Lane. This paid service allows you to book return times for select attractions, giving you access to shorter Lightning Lane queues. While it does come at an extra cost, many of my clients find it well worth the investment to save time standing in line. To get the most out of Lightning Lane, I recommend pre-purchasing. Guests staying on-property have the benefit of purchasing Lightning Lane access 7 days in advance of their stay, allowing them to select up to three attractions per day before they even arrive. For all other guests, Lightning Lane can be pre-purchased 3 days prior to their ticketed visit. Once in the parks, guests can continue booking additional reservations throughout the day.For top-tier attractions like Tron; Lifecycle Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, you may need to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane pass, so keep that in mind as you plan your budget. |
Dining is another area where a bit of planning can really optimize your Disney experience. Securing dining reservations early is essential, especially for sought-after spots like Cinderella’s Royal Table or Be Our Guest. Dining reservations open 60 days in advance, and I always suggest my clients book as early as possible. If you’re unable to grab a table at your preferred restaurant, don’t worry—Disney’s mobile ordering system allows you to skip the line at quick-service locations, saving you precious time during your park day. |
An efficient itinerary is key to maximizing your time at Walt Disney World. As I always tell my clients, it’s important to plan your day in a way that avoids unnecessary backtracking. Focus on one area of the park at a time, especially in larger parks like Epcot and Magic Kingdom, to minimize walking and maximize the number of attractions you can experience. Leave room in your schedule for spontaneous moments and unexpected ride opportunities, but having a well-thought-out plan will keep your day running smoothly. |
Finally, don’t forget that Disney magic isn’t just about the rides. Take some time to soak in the atmosphere, catch a parade or evening fireworks show, and appreciate the attention to detail that makes Disney so special. While it can be tempting to try to fit everything into your visit, sometimes the most magical moments come from simply enjoying the little things. Finding the right balance between planning and spontaneity will ensure that your trip is as magical as you’ve always dreamed. |
